Alright! I read something in this new book I can’t seem to put down. If you want to know the title and a blip on how incredible it is, check out my last post …In a small part of this book the author talks about Giving for 10 Days and the positive effects it can have. One lady in particular did it when she was suffering from a serious medical condition. After the 10 days of giving something away, her medical condition significantly improved and the doctors saw a positive change. So cool!
I have seen the positive effects of serving in my own life and I have been wanting to do more of it lately. I also recently listened to my church’s General Conference weekend and felt inspired. I just want to be better and root myself in service.
So, in honor of this, I have decided to do my own GIVE FOR 10 DAYS and I want you to try it with me! Let’s see if it can really make a positive difference in our lives… giving 1 thing away everyday. for 10 days. It doesn’t have to be anything big. It can be a simple phone call to a friend you haven’t talked to in a while, taking cookies to a neighbor you haven’t met, helping someone with something you know they may need, giving away clothes you know you don’t need…or maybe giving away one of your favorite things.
Here is my list of 10. Use it, tweek it, & let’s give this a go! :
Day 1: Give a phone call. Call up someone you know might need it. Someone you haven’t talked to in a while. A grandparent. A friend. Catch up and let them know that they are loved.
Day 2: Give a treat. Make your favorite treat and deliver it to someone. A neighbor, friend, stranger. Be creative.
Day 3: Give a hand. Find a simple way to serve. Does someone you know need help? Whether it’s with errands, or watching someones kids for a few hours, or helping someone move…find a way to reach out. Other ways to give a hand could be, volunteering at an assisted living facility, donating to a cause online, or sparing a dollar or two for a homeless person on the side of the road.
Day 4: Give a note. Write a letter to a friend who lives far away. Write a note to a loved one or someone you know who could use it.
Day 5: Give a food date. Have lunch or dinner with some friends and catch up. Take a loved one out. Invite someone over to join you and your family for dinner.
Day 6: Give an activity. Invite a friend or neighbor to go do one of your favorite activities. A yoga class or a dance class. A craft. Bake something delicious.
Day 7: Give a “pay-it-forward”. Swing through a drive-thru and pay for the persons meal in the car behind you. Maybe they will do the same for the person behind them! I’ve seen this done and love the ripple effect.
Day 8: Give your favorite thing. What is something you love? Give one of your favorite things away to someone! Maybe your favorite lotion or a gift card to your favorite restaurant. Your favorite brand of notebook or pen…whatever it may be!
Day 9: Give time. Give a minute of your time in some sort of way. Meeting someone new while you are waiting in line. Putting your phone away and playing with your kids, or having a conversation with your spouse. Giving a little bit of time to nature and being outside.
Day 10: YOUR CHOICE! Find your own special way to give and serve today.
I will post on my Instagram account about each one of these for the next 10 days to remind us all to serve a little more. Have fun and let me know how it goes!
